Hip Hop meets Punk Rock
Early hip hop by Cold Crush Brothers. Really simple, but interesting connection between NY punk scene and burgeoning Hip Hop scene that would catch The Beastie Boys fixation.....

Beck + Flaming Lips
This one is for my good friend Mike. You have got to get caught up on Beck. I recommend "Mutations" for a real solid album or "Midnite Vultures" for a real fun album. Both are great. Also "Sea Changes" but its a downer downer....

Parliament/Pachelbel
This song was used in a truly moving hymn by Parliament on their first album. Another fine example of classical music sampling.
It's sped up....but you can tell it is the same progression. This song is truly moving. Hard to believe its the same Parliament. I truly recommend this whole album, their first called Osmium.
Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep
Just try getting this one unstuck from your head. Mac and Katie Kissoon's cover of Middle of the Road's, "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep. Enjoy.

Staple Singers 1959 (My Best 78)
This 78 is absolutely amazing and I have a copy of it. Old gospel recording are just absolutely spectacular. You can really hear where soul music came from. Especially these very singers became huge soul singers when they switched to secular. Listening to this on original 78 on a phonograph and the other track, "I Got Religion" is what its all about. Trust me. It plays really well even though it has a huge crack from when my roomate tried to bring it to me in the pysch ward. It broke, but it was really rad of him to try and bring it, and it still plays amazingly even though the crack is huge. Lucky, because anyone who collects 78s knows they are way more brittle than vinyl.

Sir Douglas Quintet - Mendocino
So, I knew about "Ukiah" by the Doobie Brothers and "Mendocino County Line" by Willie Nelson, but this is a new one. A good one too...
