Box Tops - The Letter

As you can probably tell....I had a pretty boring weekend.

MIA vs The Clash

I noticed this sample right away after first hearing Paper Planes, but only because I love the Clash. And I'm a music geek, I mean aficionado. She does a pretty good job at burying it, but its the key part to the beat.

Wu Tang - C.R.E.A.M.

Classic. RZA the true genius of beats, here with a sample from The Charmels. (Obscure Soul Band)

Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody

One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Love the Righteous Brothers. Blue Eyed Soul at its best. Phil Spector really made beautiful recording production with this band. The "Wall of Sound."

Four Tops - Baby I Need Your Loving

No one did it quite like the Four Tops. They're hits have that oldies soul sound that you just don't hear anymore. It's got soul. It's got step. Nothing like'em. Apparently they really were the initial stomp sound that would become so influential on the UK Northern Soul scene.

The Shaggs- Who are Parents?

The Shaggs. Just type it into Wikipedia. Frank Zappa's fave album of all time.
Amazingly bad.

The Lollipop Shoppe - You Must Be A Witch

Probably the second best 60's jam. Fred Cole of Dead Moon fame's "You Must Be a Witch." So intense, and full of energy for a 60's song. Also, talk about controversial lyrics. No bubblegum lovey dovey stuff here. Listen to the bridge, "You Must Be a Witch, I DON"T NEED YOUR LOVIN!"
WOW! Fred Cole! What a beginning to forty years of music. Glad you lost the witch and found Toody Cole.

Shocking Blue - Send me a Postcard

One of the most rocking songs ever from the 60's psych era. The dutch Shocking Blue, one of the most under appreciated bands of all time. Listen to the bridge, with the congas and keyboards, it's INSANE. What a break!!!! I adore this song SOOOOO much!!!!!

Crystal Castles

The last good show I saw at Back Space. And was very lucky to get in. Very lucky. Super crowded. Yeah, another good dance super electronic video game music band, Crystal Castles.

Tonight!

El Ten Eleven

I saw these guys last night, and danced like no one was watching.... It was so refreshing and fun. I haven't been going to shows. I am still kicking myself for missing Ratatat. It's all about the dance rock w/ electronic two pieces these days. Take Death from Above 1979 and some Ratatat and Lightening Bolt and you've got El Ten Eleven. SO GOOD! I got their record to! IT is key!

Morrissey - Suedehead

My favorite Morrissey song....by far.

Apparently the below album is a prank....

April Fool's come late. Too bad.....I would love to hear this album!

Trent Reznor Gone 80's/Rap/Dance Hip Hop?????????

I have got to hear this. I've always been a fan of NIN's first album, Pretty Hate Machine, especially its pseudo rap industrial track "Down In It."

MR T Pissed OFF!

This is totally nuts! Mr T. is seriously pissed off on national television. It really made me think a lot about the persona of Mr T and what the real person most have been like. And how much it must have felt phony to always play this real tough role, like on the A-Team. This lead me to thinking about how blacks were portrayed in popular television shows in the 80's. It was pretty wrong, not as bad as blacksploitation flicks of the 70's, but pretty bad. For example, look at Webster and Different Strokes. White affluent families taking custody of black children. How would that have made you feel if you were African American? I'd be pissed off about a show like that. Different Strokes always had really weird story lines too....I mean really weird.

Tell It Like It Is Mr T!

MR. T is so good!
