SAMPLES, SAMPLES, SAMPLES!

Amazing Sample (WU Tang - CREAM)

Right there at the beginning. Man! that is fabulous. Apparently Issac Hayes wrote this song for the Charmels, this is a funkier cover of the original, which is more doo-wop. Wu Tang really scored on this sample. I'm sure most people know the jam, C.R.E.A.M. off of 36 Chambers. Fabulous 90's Hip Hop.

Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance

Amazing female old skool rap jam. I thought this song was MC Lyte for the longest time. I'm glad I finally figured it out. I need to find this on 45. So good, right up there with "Push It," by Salt N' Peppa.

Os Mutantes

Brazil's very own tropicalia answer to the 60's psychedelic US sound, Os Mutantes. Just listen to that fuzzed out rift.
It makes 13th Floor Elevators or The Chocolate Watchband seem not so foreign. I love this track.
(Yes, I'm still completely obsessed with 60's psych and soul)

SLAYER

This is awesome. And reminds me of being in Yosemite. Our boss had a drinking game called, "Slayer" where you were supposed to drink during screams in metal songs. Too good....
(Side Note: I've never cared for Slayer...)

Church tomorrow...

...I think I'm going to go. If nothing else, to see if these people I actually attend youth group with actually go or not.......
Also, to give it another try.And becuz I should.

BIG NEWS!

I finally took my Praxis 2: Middle School Mathematics test today. It went really well, I think I definitely passed. YEAH! I'll let you all know in four weeks.

Pixies - Hey

Always been one of my favorite Pixies songs. I've been listening to them a lot again lately. I really wore them out, but they are one of the best bands of all time. For sure. By far. Hands down. And all the rest....

Presidential Blog

That's right. If you haven't heard. Our President, Mr Obama, has started a blog for volunteering to help America. So, blogging can really make a difference. Maybe soon blogging won't have such the reputation for geekdom. I mean, if the president is doing it, it must be cool. Right? Click on the link below

My Watchmen review.

WEll, hopefully I don't offend anyone.

I really do feel like ethically, I'm becoming more and more conservative. Is it just because I've always enjoyed going against the tide? Certainly, America is getting more loose in its morals and ethics. So, its possible.

That being said, last night I decided to take in the film Watchmen. Another comic book movie, like all the big movies these days. Do we all just long for exrtodinary lives with super human strength these days? What is it? A part of me believes that, its simply because with CGI, we now have the capability to make these films. As well all know though, movies are more than just visuals, what about story and characters.

So, Watchmen. Wow. Ummm...its definitely something. If you google a review you will undoubtedly find something about Dr Manhattan's blue radiating member. And its certainly something that gets more film time than you would expect from an American film. Which is an interesting topic, all to itself. Why is the male genitalia the ultimate obscenity in this country. Or is it? I suppose exposed female genitalia is worse. I'm getting off topic here, but in England for example, there's not a problem with male genitalia in movies. Now, I'm not a woman, so I don't know if this is something that is repulsive, obnoxious, hilarious. I don't know. For guys, its kinda just...what the heck. In fact, most guys go see this movie. And I could just fell the uncomfortable shifting around in chairs during the movie.

Most importantly, we need to beg the question, WHY? Why is it in the film. Well, because he's a naked blue dude. I guess. But, what about kids getting into see this movie. Surely it is targeted at high school age kids. The movie, is EXTREMELY violent though, graphically. And the super heros come off way more like super villians. Its by no means your standard good guy, bad guy movie. One of the superheros rapes on of the superheroines. Also, they take lots of joy in methodically brutally murdering bad guys. I know, I know, I sound like a parent. But to me, this whole thing just seems like one more step in the dumbing down and demoralizing of America. Now it's okay that we can have super heros doing bad things, even killing millions (sorry...spoiler), raping, and having naked blue members. What next? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. I know where films are going in America. And I'm not afraid to say it. Pornography. It's true. Films are going pornographic. That's right. We'll all be sitting in a crowded theater, just like during the 70's watching a porn-o. It will be wrapped in a pretty picture though. No longer seedy, socially unacceptable, or gross. Something for the whole family. I'm getting out there, but really...I think Watchmen, is just one more film towards pushing American cinema towards smut.

This film is not for kids. This film is not that great even. It had a descent story. It was good eye candy. But, ulitimately, it was just smut. Smut on the big screen. Totally sexist too.

Watchmen Trailer

With Smashing Pumpkins song "The End is the Beginning is the End." Oddly enough this song, which was used for the trailer, was on the Batman and Robin soundtrack. It's a great song. Almost classic Pumpkins. Almost. I do like it though....

As for Watchmen, I can't wait to see it...... I may have to go tomorrow.

Hip Hop Sample (AWESOME!)

I need to find all these records. And so do you.

I didn't go to church today...

...Because of several reasons. (excuses)
1. We lost an hour, making it even earlier.
2. Last week, when I went for the first time, it didn't do anything for me. It was exactly what I expected. Exactly. Which is depressing.
3. I'm just really in a bad rut lately......

One of the smoothest songs you'll ever hear.....

Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home to Me

I doubt if a smoother song will ever be written, especially in our life time. It's so beautiful I love oldies.

All be darned...

Videos that changed my life....(Pt. 3)

The world's first opinion of STP and Weiland, and his died red hair.
IT was one part Pearl Jam, one part the future of what would become really bad alterna rock, aka - MAtchbox 20, Wallflowers, Creed, Hootie...

But it was good. This album actually was really good. I loved it.

The million dollar question: WHAT IS THIS SONG ABOUT??
There are a lot of really twisted songs on this album, seriously. Sex Type Thing, Wicked Garden, Creep.
What kind of man was Scott Weiland at this point in his life. He was kind of one part Axl Rose, one part ????
Help me solve this riddles.
Mike!

Dragons

Dragons Pilot from Dragons on Vimeo.
Some show from some guys I don't know from Marshall, MI. I do know lots of people from there....
It's pretty funny.

Ween doing Led Zepp "All of my Love"

This is so good. Got to love the Ween.

Videos that changed my life....

Wow! Where to begin with this one. This video is just AWESOME! The song is great, the video is great, it has this whole amazing feel to it. And that feel, is coolness. the Beasties pretty much perfect it on this one. Apparently it was filmed in Rotoroa NZ, but it looks like it could be another planet or Yellowstone. Also, it apparently is a slight tribute to the Pink Floyd Live in Pompeii performance, which I've never seen. But, this video really introduced me to the versatility of the amazing Beasties. I remember learning the bass line for this song on guitar. Probably can still play it....
I love the smoke. I remember this on Beavis and Butthead as well.... (Speaking of influences.)
