Oldies Revival!!!

Doesn't this sounds like an oldies song. Well...its not. Its the awesome sounds of Mark Sultan, aka BBQ, who often performs with King Khan. I saw them Memorial Day and it was the best show I'd seen in a long long time. So much good fun dancing. Portland I'm proud of ya!

Ike & Tina - Proud Mary (Creedence Cover)

Portishead - The Rip

Probably the most beautiful track I've put a video up for on here since, Low - Dragonfly. Makes you want to silently weep to yourself for no apparent reason. Amazing. (Not the official video, that one has no sound on youtube, which is ????)

Fraction Assignment (MTH 594 @ PSU)

I made this worksheet for class. It is quite complicated. It breaks down the steps of thinking involved with taking a fraction of a fraction, which is multiplication, although it may seem like division. Fractions are a really important building block to algebra. I've been super focused on them, lately. Wayyyy tooo much so....!!!

New Sonic Youth Album

I haven't paid too much attention in a while....
New music is hard to get into, for us old folks, even if its are old standbys. Lately I listen to whatever, sometimes really bad dance hip hop on the radio or mariachi traditional mexican music. Either way here's something off of SY's new one. 16th album or some ridiculous number like that. Kim does vocals, which I am always mixed on. She can either be great, or beyond bad. You be the judge. The guitar work rocks and the song is really quick. Which is different.

My Roots!

This is seriously getting back to my roots people. Beck recently covered Sonic Youth and vice versa on an exclusive Matador 7 inch. It is fantastic. I can still remember one of the first 120 Minutes on MTV i saw, with Beck and Thurston. Beck really does an amazing low fi old job on this track. Not an easy one to make sound good on acoustic. I wish Beck would do a whole One Foot in the Grave album of this style. He is such a great musician. Basically are Bob Dylan.
(PS - For those not in the know, this is off of Sonic Youth's fabulously creepy third or fourth album EVOL)

Late Mother's Day Post

This is my mother with her mother. It's a great picture. I believe I took it in Maui, during our family vacation in Christmas 2007. Wow! That long ago already. Time really goes and goes and goes. I am so glad that my grandma is still with us. It is strange to think I haven't lost anyone in my family, with the exception of a great grandma. Good Norwegian genes, is what I chock it up to. Anyways, I love my mom more than she'll ever understand. I wish I hadn't been such a complete disaster in my twenties, I hope that I can do everything within my power to make it up to her. I know she wants to be a grandma someday herself, and I don't even have a girlfriend. So....I got to stick to the plan here, get a career, so I can actually afford a family and then hopefully these dreams of mine will be realized. Instead of just keeping them as dreams, after all there is only so many things you can make happen, some are not up to you. I don't even know if I'm capable of being in love again. I got so darn messed up. I met the girl of my dreams once.....and it was pretty much the worst thing that's ever happened in my life. And I put the blame solely on my insanity and inability to even be in a relationship. This has turned into a rant post, sometimes I just type these out and then save them and not post them. It can be scary having a blog and putting yourself out there for the whole world to judge. The whole world. People are not kind, they are judgmental. ANd their judgements are negative. But no one is a bigger critic of my shortcoming than me. And with that being said, thank god for my mother because she always see's the good in me.

A Sunday Smile.....

(I missed church today, I wish I would have made it.)

Beirut - Nantes (Street Performance)

Really great. I'm in love with these guys right now....

"Nurses" and "Explode Into Color"

I saw two of Portland's finest bands last night at Berbati's for FREE. It was totally awesome. Even though I went by myself. I rocked out. Nurses, are a strange three piece, that plays almost child like pop songs, with Pavement or Modest Mouse/Shins style hooks. Really good, really fun. the singer moves a lot and lifts his legs and dances. Really cool to watch. The other band "Explode Into Color" is the Willamette Week's pick for band of the year. They are a three piece female band that sounds like MIA meets old skool Butthole Surfers, and rocks out with reggae/!!! style sense-ability. The lead singer is the only guitarist, the other two girls play drums. One standing up. They were totally awesome. I looked for video footage on youtube.com but nothing did them justice. Not even close. I was really re-juevenated to play music again, but alas I have no one to play with. Maybe someday. The really interesting thing was that both bands used effects machines, and neither had a bass player. Totally crazy. Hideous Kids. I started to have dreams of playing music again with Mike and Sam. Making music again.....

Calculus Pt. 2

Calculus in 20 minutes...

This is amazing!

Why is a number or variable raised to a negative exponent, one over that number or variable?

I attempt my first instructional video for math. And succeed. I think. U be the judge.
